Using Sewer taps collected from Inspections to Help Citizens
Often, people don’t think about where their wastewater goes after leaving their homes and businesses. In Decatur, their waste may be going to either the Sanitary District of Decatur, or a wastewater treatment plant managed by the City of Decatur itself. Why there are two plants… I’m not sure. However, this often causes confusion for citizens who experience problems like sewage backing up on their property.
When citizens call in, we first ask them what their address is in order to see if:
They have a tapping permit on file.
If not, if we have a sewer tap located anywhere near or on their property.
If the answer is no, they can easily be transferred to the City of Decatur’s relevant Public Works division.
This quick application also provides management with information on who owns land parcels, and the extent of our District’s boundaries.
